Research Topic selection?
Well its quiet simple... as I learn from our team member Datta Shete who shares his own experience here how he selected his topic...
He approached the guide in Microbiology Department... he was asked to search for a topic and there his quest began...
He was confused, and I empathize with him...
For a second year student coming up with a topic is difficult...
So he decided to follow the route the Post Graduate students take to select a topic and the way which all of us must take too... in order for proper selection of a topic...
The PGs and what Datta did was to look up DISSERTATION topics in the Central library...
What is Dissertation...? it is also know as thesis which comprises of research and findings of the student researcher, which a student submits in order to obtain a professional qualification...
Thus browsing through this list of topic shall prove to be an useful guide for the students as to what topics can be selected and also helps you in selecting a topic which can be an extension of the topic for which the research has been done before...
We the Students Team shall compile a topic list of all the students past and present, who had submitted to ICMR STS...
Good luck,
Dr. Sura

What you must do before considering STS...
Firstly one must understand that since if it is your first project you need someone to help you choose a topic which you can do within that stipulated time frame of 2 months...
This someone is known as GUIDE... he or she is person who is part of the faculty who has the experience of guiding several students for projects... they can be the best persons to suggest you a topic which you can do...
How to find a guide... simple "approach them" and approach them quickly for students must know that there is just ONE GUIDE PER STUDENT under ICMR STS rules..
Ask them will they help you in your project...
Possibilities are they might or might not...
If they do....Hurray...
If not then....Dont worry find another one...simple isnt it...or just request them over and over again to guide you...
Once a guide decides to help you... They will request you to read some articles... Do that...Go to library and search for some books which your guide suggests...
Then you yourself with come up some topic... if not then go back to your guide and ask for his help...
Once a topic has been chosen then all you have to do is work on its methodology, fill up its proforma which will be made available on this site...
Once your proforma and form is ready then prepare a Consent form and ethical committee form to be approved by the ethical committee which is under Pharmacology department...where you will have to submit a copy of your entire proposal for approval...
Once approved you will be done and then just Post it so that it reaches there before the deadline mentioned... last years deadline was 18th February so expect the deadline to be near this date this year too..
About Short term studentship (STS)
Following post will inform you regarding Short Term Studentship:-
At present there is no information regarding STS 2009.
When they become available they will be posted here under....
you can have a brief look at some useful resources like FORM 2008.
-
The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Research Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research.
-
During the last 28 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship program. The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacation for the year 2008.
